Discipline

Discipline is a controlled behaviour or self control, it can also be defined as a state of order based on submission to authority

One of the greatest battles faced by everyone is the battle between the spirit and the flesh. A lot of persons try to control their flesh by their own strength but fail again and again. 

It takes the spirit of God for you to be able to put your flesh under subjection 

Discipline is acting as commanded and not as convenient, 

No form of discipline is convenient because it takes something from you, some sort of sacrifice, self denial.

If you're not disciplined in any aspect of life, you can not rise in that area. 

No man got distinguished in any field of human endeavour without discipline, there are some unpleasant conditions you must bear in other to get to your goal in life.

You can't rise above the level of your discipline

Daniel 1:8 

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

But Daniel purposed in his heart,.... It being proposed to him to be brought up in the manner before described, he revolved it in his mind; he well weighed it, and considered it with himself, and came to a resolution about it. 

that he would not defile himself with the portion the king's meat; by eating of it; partly because it might consist of what was forbidden by the law of Moses, as the flesh of unclean creatures, particularly swine, and fat and blood, and so defile himself in a ceremonial sense; and partly because, though it might be food in itself lawful to be eaten, yet part of it being first offered to their idol "Bel", as was usual, and the whole blessed in his name, 

nor with the wine which he drank; which was as unlawful as his food; being a libation to his gods,  

therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself; he did not, in a surly, still, and obstinate manner, refuse the meat and drink brought; but prudently made it a request, and modestly proposed it to the prince of the eunuchs, that had the care and charge of him and his companions.

God honoured Daniel because he disciplined himself for God. Be different for God, You don't have to blend in with the crowd just to fit into a carnal and sinful system

BE DISCIPLINED IN THE AREA OF YOUR OCCUPATION

One of the catalyst of poverty is uncontrolled sleep.

Show me a heavy sleeper and I'll show you a man who's likely end up poor

There's nothing wrong with sleeping. God designed sleep to refresh the human body and mind, but there's everything wrong with OVERSLEEPING

Proverbs 6:10-11

[10] Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

[11] So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Excessive sleep is an easy way to destiny distruction

Proverbs 10:4 

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

Proverbs 6:9

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

Proverbs 20:13

Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

BE DISCIPLINED WITH YOUR TIME

As Christians we are not to manage our time the same way the world manages theirs. We must make sure that we seek God in everything that we do. We are to organize our time and plan wisely for the future.

Time lost can never be recovered. God is the God of restoration, He can restored your lost virtues, but He won't rewind time for you to correct your wrongs or do the things you wished you did.

Proverbs 16:9 

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

Proverbs 21:5 

]The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

Other areas to be disciplined include

FINANCE

Financial discipline is important in the life of every believer, wastage leads to Poverty, excessive debts leads to living under pressure, health complications and eventually, Poverty.

Proverbs 21:20 

In the House of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.

Proverbs 22:7 

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

WORDS/SPEECH

Words spoken can never be recovered, be careful of how you use your words, some words cut deeper than a knife

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Proverbs 12:18

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

James 3:6

[6]And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

God won't step down form heaven to help you control your tongue from talking, self discipline will get that done for you
